About Our Scout Troop: Congratulations on your son's decision to join Boy Scouting! Troop 555 is a National Quality Unit, and our boys and adult leaders show great esprit de corps to that effect. More than that, however, Troop 555 is a family unit, and when you join our troop, you become part of our scouting family, the "Triple Nickel" family. The following information should answer many of your questions about Scouting and our troop in general. We encourage you to check out scouting websites such as the National, Council, and District websites, in addition to our own. Scouting done right requires a serious commitment from the boy and his parents. After all, the ultimate goal of a Boy Scout is the Eagle rank, which will provide him with quite an accomplishment to help him throughout his lifetime. Scouting aims to strengthen a boy's character through precept and example, to make him an aware and participating citizen, and to enhance his physical, mental, and moral development. If that sounds like a tall order, it is. But Boy Scouting has proven over time that it can fill that order by exposing your son to new, wholesome experiences as he works and plays with his fellow Scouts in our troop. Boys that spend significant time in Scouting, particularly if they attain the rank of Eagle Scout, will permanently improve their adult lives, often in ways they cannot imagine. What other program for 10-17 year-old boys can make that claim? Troop History: Troop 555 was founded in November 2004 by Steven F. Martin and James W. McEnulty, originally chartered and meeting at a local church, and now chartered with our parent organization, Friends and Family of North Star Scouts, which is also the Chartered Organization for Crew 555 and Packs 500 and 555. The troop was borne with the full faith and support of fellow Troop 430, originally of which certain of our scouts and scouters were members. |
